HISTORY
Solinair was founded in 1991 as a Flight Training Organisation and Air Taxi Operator based at Portorož
airport (SLO) and rapidly became an Operator of LET410 aircraft for DHL, a relationship that continued for some
15 years. Since this time, Solinair has continued to flourish as an operator of cargo aircraft primarily
focussed on long-term charter contracts but also conducting ad hoc operations. Company moved
headquarters in 2014 to its primary operating base Ljubljana Airport.
In 2008 MNG Airlines became a shareholder of Solinair, and the Flight Training Organisation was spun off
into a separate company Lipican Aer. Coincident with this, one Airbus A300B4 was added to Solinair’s fleet,
and this aircraft has operated as a standby aircraft for UPS, as well as fulfilling ad hoc charter requirements
for larger capacity cargo aircraft until spring 2014.
Later in 2008, Solinair commenced operation of the Bridges Worldwide fleet of Saab 340 aircraft under a
Management Services Agreement. The aircraft were deployed on several routes in Europe and this
operation continued until the summer of 2011 when Bridges sold their fleet. However, Solinair continued
to operate one Saab 340 from its Ljubljana base on full charter to Bridges up to July 2015 when operation
stopped and aircraft was removed from Solinair AOC.
The fleet has further developed to include one Boeing 737-400F aircraft that, since entering service in 2011,
has been deployed on various charter operations. Second Boeing 737-400F sister ship aircraft has joined
the fleet in 2014 to expand company charter operations capabilities. Operation with Boeing 737-400F
continued until July 2015 when aircraft were sold.
In September 2015 Solinair started to operate one Airbus A300-600 to support DHL operation. Second
A300-600 joined the fleet in October 2018.
Alongside the aircraft operation, Solinair has since May 2008 further developed its Part-145 maintenance
organisation as a provider of line and base maintenance services to 3rd party operators. More than 300
heavy (“C”) checks have been performed on ATR, Embraer and Bombardier aircraft at Solinair’s 4.700m2
maintenance facilities at Ljubljana Airport in 14 years after gaining approval for base maintenance in 2010.
In addition to line maintenance stations supporting its own aircraft, Solinair provides line maintenance also
for other operators at various locations in the EU and in third countries. Line maintenance services are
performed on Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Embraer and ATR aircraft types.
Solinair is also an EASA Part-147 approved Maintenance Training Organisation providing EASA Part-66 basic
and aircraft type/task training courses, with classes being conducted on various locations, to students from
all over the world.
